While we're on the topic of holidays...I figured I would share my favorite turkey recipe, I mean...what's not to love about Thanksgiving?? Family...check. Turkey...check. Tryptophan induced coma...definite check!
I tried this recipe for the first time last year at Christmaka and I can promise that this will be the juiciest bird you ever had!

I used an 18 lb turkey and it was fresh...not sure if that makes a difference?

Wanted to share the news and a little piece of the wedding planning thus far. I asked my bridesmaids to "come away with me" to mexico with a message in a bottle.
You can find these bottles here: Corked Bottle, the rest was all DIY. Sand was from Michael's and the paper was printed off my computer. The scroll inside says "will you be my bridesmaid"! Obviously LOL

Weekend Dinner Party

This weekend I had some friends over for a dinner party, I also just bought a new camera...the perfect excuse to start taking some shots of my random creations!

Here is the menu:

Appetizer: Endive leaves with a lobster, chive salad dressed with a blood orange reduction

Salad: Roasted beets with goat cheese, maple glazed pecans and balsamic vinegar

Entree: Lamb w/ mint/pistachio pesto and sautéed wild mushrooms

Dessert: Chocolate pudding with graham crust, salted caramel macaroon and banana brulee with raspberry coulis

Here are the pictures, recipe for the endive leaves to follow:

Endive Salad

Serves 5 as an appetizer

8 oz box of frozen lobster meat

2 Tbsp. minced chives

juice of one lemon

15 endive leaves

juice of 8 blood oranges

a pinch of sugar

1. Cut the stem off each bunch of endive leaves with a sharp knife
2. Chop up the lobster in small pieces (no bigger than the size of a jelly bean)
3. Mix the juice of the lemon and the chives together with the lobster, stick in the fridge until plating
4. Juice all 8 blood oranges
5. Combine blood orange juice and a pinch of sugar to a saucepan and simmer on medium heat.
6. Remove from heat once the juice is bubbling and thick (about 5-6 minutes)

Plating
I used a paint brush for the blood orange at the bottom of the plate but a spoon would suffice
Place 3 endive leaves on each plate once the blood orange juice has been painted
Spoon the lobster mixture into endive leaf and pour a little more blood orange reduction on top
Serve!

Cinnamon Pillar Candles

Such an easy project! Go to the dollar store for cheap pillar candles

and hot glue the cinnamon sticks right on there.

Evergreen Place Holders

I am also loving the place cards, such a cute easy touch.

Again, all you need is a little dash of mother nature mixed with some good ol' hot glue.

Peeled to Perfection!

OK, so by now I think everyone knows my obsession with handy kitchen tools.

This has me excited...really excited.

I can't tell you how many times I've used my mandolin to julienne carrots and cucumbers only to see part of my finger coming off with vegetable haha! I'm making it seem a bit more dramatic than it is, however...it is pretty dangerous.

This rotary peeler from Joseph Joseph (one of my favorite vendors from Caban) keeps your skin/fingers/other limbs away from the blade and focuses on the task at hand. There are three options on the peeler: a regular peel for potatoes and carrots etc, a julienne option and a serrated blade.

Goodbye Halloween Hello Santa!!

Ok, so by now you have learned that I love celebrating holidays, any holiday will do!

Now that Halloween has passed I can finally start talking about Christmas/Hanukkah, YAY!!!!
I am having a Christmaka party in December for 16 people. It's a sit down dinner with Turkey and all the fixin's. Because I am super paranoid of forgetting things, I have made a list...well an excel spreadsheet to be perfectly honest, listing the menu, attendees, dinnerware and decorations.
My next few posts will be my inspiration for this years Christmaka party.

Black Baroque

Have you ever used the "pounce" option on Etsy? I have! That's how I usually find these great vendors.
I was "pouncing" around earlier today and stumbled on this store: BlackBaroque.
They were recently featured on Etsy's front page!
How amazing are these? I think I am going to buy some for my bedside. These prints do not come with the frame however I've seen this stuff everywhere. Worst case scenario you can grab one from a vintage shop and spraypaint it with highgloss paint from the hardware store.

These prints are all on collected antique paper and the illustrations are dated from the time period of the 16th and 18th centuries.

Take a look...they are so beautiful!

Plant Shower

As you may already know... I LOVE smart, useful gadgets.
This watering "can" is perfect for small apartments, balconies and herb gardens.
I have to lug around this big pink watering can from plant to plant, splashing water all over the place.
This little bottle keeps your home dry and neat, it's also pretty! Not an eyesore like the typical cans.

The "BOCA's" pure, iconic tree-like form allows for two functions. Plants can be sprinkled by several fine streams coming from the shower. Alternatively, they can be watered by a single stream issuing from the spout. The decorative felt ring collects droplets of water left behind. Filled through the spout, BOCA holds about a liter of water.

Standing Tall

This weekend my girlfriends and I took a trip up north to Haliburton, Ontario to visit our old summer camp. We arrived to town and saw there was a fabulous fair going on it the park and decided to stop in. For the most part a lot of the merchants were selling wood bowls and jewelry but this particular booth wowed me in a serious way. Andrea Ripley designs and creates gorgeous glass pieces of art. My favorites were definitely the dessert presentation pieces. Check them out, how beautiful would these be on a cheese and wine table?
